S2R students visited BBC Television Centre on Thursday 13th August. They took part in an official tour of the building, seeing the newsroom where journalists were working on radio, television and online news stories, looking through the observation windows at studios where sets were under construction, rehearsals taking place, and the quiz show Eggheads was being recorded. Everyone was amazed at the size of the studios, the number of lights, and the huge number of people working in the building.
One of our students simulated a weather report whilst we learnt about the technology which selected which colours the cameras “saw” and discovered exactly how Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak worked in the films. In an interactive studio our group were involved in reading the news and taking part in a quiz.

When we visited the green room our guide gave us the gossip on some of the demands of different celebrities – who do you think wanted a life size photo of the pope in her dressing room? Who likes to have a basket of fruit? And who on earth demanded white silk drapes around the room? Our S2R group know!!
More Summer Fun

Year 6 and 7 students were lucky enough to take part in a Drama day at the Steelbacks Study Centre led by Tricia and Mike from Act It Out. Several study centre staff were on hand to share in the fun as we played drama games, learnt about the actor’s toolkit, and explored a desert island. We followed clues to discover the treasure and developed friendships along the way.

We were at the cricket club, and Northants were playing Kent, so we also watched a bit of cricket, obtained a few autographs, and acquired goodie bags! What a great day!

A group of Kic.in2.study students and quite a few staff enjoyed a day at Grendon Outdoor Education Centre on 10th August. They worked together to build rafts, enjoyed some time in the pool, polished their archery skills, experienced the zip wire and tested themselves on the ropes course.
