S2R students visited BBC Television Centre on Thursday 13th August. They took part in an official tour of the building, seeing the newsroom where journalists were working on radio, television and online news stories, looking through the observation windows at studios where sets were under construction, rehearsals taking place, and the quiz show Eggheads was being recorded. Everyone was amazed at the size of the studios, the number of lights, and the huge number of people working in the building.
One of our students simulated a weather report whilst we learnt about the technology which selected which colours the cameras “saw” and discovered exactly how Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak worked in the films. In an interactive studio our group were involved in reading the news and taking part in a quiz.

When we visited the green room our guide gave us the gossip on some of the demands of different celebrities – who do you think wanted a life size photo of the pope in her dressing room? Who likes to have a basket of fruit? And who on earth demanded white silk drapes around the room? Our S2R group know!!
