Panto time again
December 31, 2009 on 3:08 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsKic.in2.study students ended the year in traditional style by attending the pantomime at the Derngate Theatre in Northampton on 30th December. Accompanied by staff from Northants Study Centres they enjoyed a splendid production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves – great costumes, good singing and lots of audience participation. (The staff were particularly enthusiastic about joining in, and perhaps a little embarrassing for one or two of the students!)
The behaviour of the young people was excellent and they were a credit to us all.
We hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas and we want to take the opportunity to wish you all a very happy new year.
S2R at Northampton Saints
December 5, 2009 on 8:12 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsTwo of our S2R students were at the Saints Study Centre on 5th December. As well as writing pre and post match blogs and attending the game – which Saints won 15 – 13 in a thrilling final surge, they also found out about Matt’s Match and interviewed one of the people involved in running the campaign to help find a potentially life-saving bone marrow match for a Northampton schoolboy. About 150 people registered with the Anthony Nolan Trust during the afternoon, including several of the Bath rugby team

Year 10 Arts Award
December 3, 2009 on 5:57 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsThe girls doing the Arts Award programme had a creative evening this week when textile artist Glenn Close came in to work with them on creating a piece of art using batik. They made their own designs inspired by the beautiful textiles Glenn brought in to show them. Then they learned how to use the hot wax to protect areas of the fabric from the dyes which were then applied with a fine brush to create some wonderful pieces.

Duke of Edinburgh Award group
December 3, 2009 on 5:05 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsSix of our students have begun working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award. They have identified what they’ll be doing for the various units – volunteering, physical and skills and they’ve begun working on some of the skills needed for the expedition.
This week saw them cooking a meal on a trangia. They’d been given the challenge of planning something which could be cooked easily and they created a range including noodles, hot dogs, pasta, spaghetti bolognese and Angel Delight! In the course of their cooking they were asked to think about the implications of some of these when they were on an expedition – would they be too heavy? Were the containers suitable? How much would they need?

Overall a good start – we may even have one or two Jamie Olivers in the group!
