Year 8 at the Cobblers Study Centre
January 27, 2010 on 9:24 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsThe Cobblers Study Centre welcomed the year 8 Kic.in2.study group on 27th January. The boys enjoyed the snacks on offer before taking part in a number of games and activities aimed at helping them get to know each other better, and begin to develop the skills needed to work well together. The memory card game needed good communication skills as well as a good memory; dexterity was required for the chopsticks game; speed and strategy were helpful in the balloon games; determination was needed as the boys tried to eat chocolate with a knife and fork wearing outdoor clothes and blow football needed team work and planning as well as lots of breath!
We’re looking forward to working with the boys in the coming weeks.

D of E group increase their skills
January 26, 2010 on 9:51 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsBefore venturing onto the bikes this week the D of E group at Grendon learned about the checks necessary for the maintenance of quad bikes. They were instructed by Michael about checking the oil, tyre pressures and brakes. They learned how the ignition lanyard cut out worked, the importance of lubrication and the need to do visual checks on the handlebars, grips and wheel nuts and on the general condition of the bike.

Duke of Edinburgh group
January 13, 2010 on 3:36 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsOn 12th January the D of E group began working on the skills section of their programme.
All six boys have chosen to learn a bit about quad biking – how to ride the bikes and how to maintain them. The first session at Grendon Outdoor Education Centre was a very chilly affair as some of them realised they should have worn warmer clothing! They paid attention to Kurt and Michael as they learned about the safety gear they had to wear, how to start and stop the bikes, the correct way to get on and off, and the need to lean to the right and left as they steered.
Everyone had a lot of fun and they’re all looking forward to the next session.
